Kitesurfer Dies At Famara

A 30 year old kite surfer, Pablo Duran,  died after crashing into rocks at Famara last weekend. He was caught by a very strong gust of wind and lost control. Paramedics stabilised him, but he died on hospital, having suffered a brain injury. Pablo, originally from Santander,  lived on the island and was a well known local kitesurf enthusiast.

April Best Month For Cruise Visitors

April was the best month for cruise visitors to the island since ships were allowed back into port last November. So far this year, a total of 21,806 tourists have visited Lanzarote on cruise ships.

Gym Outbreak Finally Contained

The outbreak of Covid which started in a  gym in Arrecife has reached the end of the track and trace process. A total of 156 people contracted the disease as a result, making it the largest ever outbreak on the island, and at one stage accounting for more than half of the active cases.

High Winds Continue

High winds have continued to batter the island over the last few days, and a yellow warning remains in place until Monday 24th May. Gust of over 70kmh were recorded on Saturday.

New Shopping Centre For Arrecife Will Be Lanzarote’s Largest

The Garavilla shopping centre in Arrecife, which is nearing completion, will be the island’s largest and will have 70 shops and 11 restaurants, and 958 parking spaces.

Occidental Hotels News

The two Occidental Hotels in Costa Teguise, the Lanzarote Mar, and the Lanzarote Playa, have announced their plans for re-opening. The Mar will re-open in June, and The Playa, which is undergoing a refurbishment, sometime in early 2022.
